TikTok may add support to generate songs from Text Prompt👀

TikTok is testing a new AI Song feature that allows users to generate songs from text prompts. The AI model used is Bloom, a large language model. Early results from users experimenting with the feature have produced out-of-tune songs when trying to set lyrics to music. Other social media platforms are also launching music creation tools using AI. While AI-generated content could gain popularity, there are concerns about authenticity too. Can’t wait to doom scroll AI content now!

Bad news for Apple😔

Several major apps and services like YouTube, Netflix and Spotify may not have dedicated apps for Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset. YouTube confirmed its main app will not support the device, while Netflix does not plan to build a Vision Pro app. Spotify reportedly may block its iPad app from working on Vision Pro and force users to the browser instead. At launch, none of the top 46 iOS apps will have native Vision OS versions according to research. While some services like Disney+ and streaming platforms will work, the lack of apps from key competitors could hamper the Vision Pro's potential as an all-in-one media device, I’d have bought the Headset otherwise🤷🏻‍♂️

Meta in race to create AGI😈

Daddy Zuckerberg has announced a new goal for Meta to build artificial general intelligence (AGI). He believes developing AGI will help Meta build better products. Zuckerberg is investing heavily in AI research and computing power for this effort. 

While the definition and timeline for AGI is unclear, Zuckerberg sees it as a gradual process. Meta's new AI models like Llama 3 aim to have more advanced skills. Zuckerberg wants Meta to be a leader in AI and release models openly.

There is debate around whether AGI should be open or closed. Zuckerberg argues for openness but may not commit to opening AGI if Meta achieves it first. Some see this new focus as a pivot from Meta's metaverse efforts, but Zuckerberg denies this and says AI will enhance the metaverse.

More Bad news for Apple😔

Apple is set to split its App Store into two separate sections - one for the EU and one for other global markets - to comply with upcoming EU regulations on app side-loading and payments. The new European Union Digital Markets Act mandates these changes, with a deadline of March 7 for Apple to implement them. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently met with Margrethe Vestager, the EU's antitrust chief, to discuss the changes Apple must make to the App Store in Europe. The new rules will require Apple to allow alternative app stores and side-loading of apps in the EU, as well as alternative in-app payment options for developers. Android already allows side-loading and alternative stores due to its open nature, while this will mark a change for iOS in the EU region.
