You can't miss these tech newsss!

(Total read time: 12 minutes)

The entrepreneur boys are back guys!! We are very sorry that we were not able to send you guy newsletter for the past 3 weeks😔. But don’t worry as I’ll be enlighting you guys with all the tech news from the past 3 weeks in this one email. So sit back and make a large cup of coffee this time because this time it’s long(longer than drake’s shlong👀). Let’s jump right into the bits and bytes of the tech world now!

Apple Vision Pro🤯🤨

The Apple Vision Pro is Apple's first augmented and virtual reality headset, a mixed reality device that was introduced in June 2023 and launched on February 2, 2024 starting at $3,499; it has a design similar to ski goggles with a single piece of laminated glass and Aluminium alloy frame, 4K micro-OLED displays, over a dozen cameras and sensors, two Apple silicon chips including an M2 chip, spatial audio speakers, optical prescription inserts, gesture and eye tracking controls, the ability to run iPhone/iPad apps and connect to a Mac, a visionOS operating system, and offers augmented reality, virtual reality, entertainment, gaming, and communication capabilities while lasting up to 2.5 hours on a battery pack worn at the hip.

Some early adopters of a new expensive augmented reality headset have started publicly returning the device within the return period. The most common complaints are discomfort causing headaches and eye strain from the weight and fit of the headset. Some also note a lack of compelling use cases or "killer apps" at this stage. While vocal on social media, it's unclear how widespread these issues are. Returners have expressed interest in a future improved version if design flaws are addressed.

Call me when I can actually play Call of duty on my vision pro while also facetiming my girlfriend.

OpenAI introduced text to video model Sora😲

Our overlords at OpenAI has introduced Sora, a new text-to-video AI model that can generate realistic videos up to a minute in length based on text prompts, creating complex scenes with multiple characters and specific types of motion. Sora is capable of understanding how objects exist in the physical world and can accurately interpret props and generate characters expressing emotions, while also generating videos from still images or extending existing videos. Some Sora videos show signs of being AI-generated through issues like moving floors, and OpenAI notes the model may struggle with complex physics, but results are otherwise impressive as video generation rapidly advances at companies like OpenAI, Runway, Pika and Google's Lumiere model. Me and Subhamay are now planning on creating a movie using Sora. Text us if you have a killer script.

Gemini one and a half🫤

Google recently announced Gemini 1.5, an upgraded version of its AI model Gemini that features a much larger context window of 1 million tokens, allowing it to understand and respond to far more complex queries by taking into account more surrounding information. In comparison to previous versions, Gemini 1.5 is faster, more efficient through its use of Mixture of Experts techniques, and on par with the high-end Gemini Ultra model according to Google's tests. While initially only available to business users and developers, Google plans to eventually replace Gemini 1.0 with 1.5 for all users through its apps and website. The larger context window is seen as a major breakthrough and will be useful for tasks like understanding lengthy videos, code, or financial records, though regular users will have to pay extra to access the full 1 million token window.

Nvidia is now our new Daddy🫥

Nvidia has surpassed both Amazon and Alphabet in market capitalisation to become the fourth most valuable company in the world, with its stock now worth $1.83 trillion, just above Alphabet's $1.82 trillion valuation. As the leader in artificial intelligence chips through its H100 and upcoming H200 chips, which power the majority of large language models like ChatGPT and AI projects at Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon, Nvidia has seen its value soar as the world's largest tech companies engage in an AI arms race to develop their own chips, even as they continue to rely on Nvidia's technology for now.

Hackers are using our precious ChatGPT too😮‍💨

Microsoft and OpenAI have found evidence that hacking groups sponsored by Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China have begun using large language models like ChatGPT to improve their cyberattack capabilities, with the Russian group Strontium using it to research satellite and radar technologies, North Korean group Thallium aiding phishing campaigns and vulnerability research, Iranian group Curium generating phishing emails and antivirus evasion code, and Chinese actors applying it to translations, existing tool refinement, and research; while no major attacks using AI have been seen yet, Microsoft warns of future risks like voice impersonation and is working to develop its own AI-powered Security Copilot and other defenses to counter evolving AI-enabled threats.

OpenAI to add memory to ChatGPT

OpenAI is introducing a new "memory" feature for its ChatGPT conversational AI system that will allow it to remember information users provide about themselves and their interests over multiple conversations in order to feel more personalized, though some may find this unsettling given privacy concerns; the memory can be managed by users who can view what ChatGPT knows about them and request that information be forgotten, and there is also a "temporary chat" mode for conversations without memory, but OpenAI's goal is for memory to be on by default and help train future models. The real question is, Can it remember my friend’s birthday and remind me to wish him tho?👀

The X social media app recently hit the number one spot for free apps on the Apple App Store, as it struggled for the second time in two weeks to moderate the spread of explicit images of celebrities across its platform. A video purportedly showing rapper Drake nude had gone viral on X under the hashtag "drakevideo", just as in late January the app faced issues containing the spread of fake nude images of Taylor Swift. However, the controversies do not seem to have negatively impacted X's popularity, with owner Elon Musk celebrating its rise to number one. While a company spokesperson said X has a zero-tolerance policy for nonconsensual nudity and that thousands of violating posts have been removed, a reporter was still able to easily find the Drake video.

Everything is Gemini😵‍💫

Google is consolidating all of its AI products under the single name of Gemini, releasing a dedicated Gemini Android app, making Gemini the default assistant when users say "Hey Google", and folding the Duet AI features from Google Workspace into Gemini. Gemini will be available in both a standard Gemini Pro version and a more powerful Gemini Ultra subscription version available for $20 per month as part of Google One. Google is betting big on Gemini to compete with other large language models from companies like OpenAI and be at the center of its transformation into an AI-first company.
