Epic win for Epic Games!!

So if you have been living under a rock, a gaming company and the creators of Fortnite, Epic Games sued both Apple and Google for app purchase fees, but unfortunately Epic lost big time in its case with Apple, The tide finally turned for Epic as they won against Google.

On December 11th, the jury ruled in favor of Epic Games, finding that Google has turned its Google Play store and Google Play Billing service into an illegal monopoly.

Google launched Gemini’s API for developers

Google is moving full steam ahead with its Gemini AI large language model. A week after launching Gemini Pro and Gemini Nano to the public, today the company introduced a Gemini API that will let app makers access Gemini Pro, which runs off-device in Google’s data centers.

The model supports 38 languages across over 180 countries and territories worldwide, and Google says its free access tier is “suitable for most app development needs.” A new Gemini Pro Vision endpoint allows for both text and image input compared to the text-only prompts that were available last week.

JetBrains AI launched and it’s different!!

JetBrains has released an AI-powered coding companion, AI Assistant, which is available to paid users of JetBrains IDEs including IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, PhpStorm, ReSharper, and Fleet by subscription.

Unveiled on December 6, AI Assistant can explain code, answer questions about code, generate code and code completion suggestions, generate documentation, explain commits and generate commit messages, and perform other tasks. Powered by OpenAI and several proprietary JetBrains large language models, AI Assistant is available for customers of paid editions of JetBrains IDEs through a supplemental subscription.
